Sen. Joe Donnelly, D-Ind., announced on Monday he is supporting the nomination of Mike Pompeo for secretary of state, The Hill is reporting.
Donnelly became the third Democrat to announce they will back Pompeo, who appears to have the votes needed to be confirmed by the full Senate, The Hill noted.
Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., also announced on Monday he is supporting Pompeo. And Sen. Heidi Heitkamp, D-N.D., had previously said she would vote in favor of him.
Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky is the only Republican to announce opposition to Pompeo.
"We need a Secretary of State who will give the president an honest assessment on critical issues, including Russia, Syria, and the defeat of ISIS," Donnelly said. "I believe (CIA) Director Pompeo is capable of advancing U.S. interests and leading the State Department."
