Sen. Joe Manchin did some flip-flopping on Thursday, first saying he would skip the upcoming Democratic National Convention and then changing his mind later in the day.

The West Virginia Democrat told Politico he would skip the event, slated for July 25-28 in Philadelphia, in order to stay home in the wake of mass floods that have killed 20 people.

"We were working on that and everything, but it looks like I've got people coming in for flood relief ... it looks like I'm going to be working in different parts of my state. I just got to get some stuff done, I really do," Manchin told Politico.

Manchin then did a 180 and said he would go to the convention after all.

Manchin endorsed Clinton for president last year but nearly rescinded the endorsement in March after Clinton said she was "going to put a lot of coal miners and coal companies out of business."

Coal is one of West Virginia's major natural resources, although coal miners have struggled there in recent years.
