John Bolton, the incoming national security adviser, has endorsed Michigan Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, John James.
James, Detroit businessman and veteran of the Iraq war, is running to oust Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow. His campaign told The Daily Caller that Bolton issued his endorsement Thursday, presumably just before his appointment to President Donald Trump's Cabinet.
"I'm honored to have the support of Ambassador John Bolton," James said in a statement. "I understand national security from a strategic to a tactical level. I understand how to keep Americans safe because I've done it before and will continue to do so as Michigan's next U.S. Senator."
James has also received endorsements from the American Conservative Union and the Senate Conservatives Fund.
"John represents the best America has to offer, his relevant experience graduating from West Point and serving in combat makes him just the person Michigan, and America, needs in the U.S. Senate," former Navy SEAL Robert O'Neill, who took part in the operation that killed Osama Bin Laden, told the Daily Caller after campaigning with James across Michigan in December.
