Ohio's Republican Gov. John Kasich has no plans to team up with Gov. John Hickenlooper, D-Colo., to make an independent bid for the White House in 2020, the Washington Examiner reported.

"The only plans we currently have is for the governor to speak out and lead on the important issues of the day, just as he has and is doing on healthcare. Nothing beyond that," a spokesperson for Kasich said Friday.

Axios had reported the two governors are eyeing a possible joint unity ticket for a possible run in 2020. It noted Kasich would likely be at the top of any ticket. The two have been making joint appearances to talk about healthcare.

Hickenlooper had downplayed the chances of a unity ticket earlier this month, Politico reported.

"I don't think it's in the cards," he said. "But I do like the idea of working with him in some context at some point."
