Ohio Gov. John Kasich said Monday he got a good chuckle over a criticizing remark from Donald Trump's campaign chairman.

"I heard about it, I laughed. Look, Ohio is doing great. And people in the state, at least today, still like me," Kasich told NBC News. "That's just politics."

In an interview that aired on MSNBC Monday morning, Trump's campaign chief Paul Manafort said Kasich is "embarrassing" his state by not attending the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.

"He's hurting his state and embarrassing his state, frankly," Manafort said. "But most of the Republicans who aren't coming are people who have been part of the past. And people who are part of the future of the Republican Party are, frankly, going to be here participating in the program."

Kasich dismissed the comments.

"I laughed at it. It's just so — You come to Ohio, and I don't know what he's even talking about," Kasich said.

Trump is expected to fetch the Republican party's presidential nomination this week. Kasich was also in the race and was the last candidate to drop out in the lead-up to the convention.
