Republican presidential candidate John Kasich said voters in Indiana should still vote for him, despite his deal with Ted Cruz,
The Hill reports.
Kasich and Cruz announced a plan April 24 on their social media,
the Dallas Morning News reports. Kasich agreed not to spend resources in Indiana, in exchange for Cruz backing away in Oregon and New Mexico.
"I’ve never told them not to vote for me," Kasich said. "They ought to vote for me."
Kasich said his team-up with Cruz is necessary because it saves his campaign money.
"I don’t have, like, Daddy Warbucks behind me giving all this money," Kasich said. "I have to be careful about my resources."
Kasich said his campaign focuses on the grassroots. "My campaign is like the people’s campaign," Kasich said.
Campaign strategist John Weaver told the Dallas Morning News that the plan only applies to certain states that they have chosen.
Trump on Twitter called Cruz and Kasich "mathematically dead," and "sad."
When asked for a response to Trump calling the team-up "desperate," the Dallas Morning News said Kasich told a reporter, "I’m not desperate. Are you?"
Trump later criticized the way Kasich eats.
USA Today reported that Trump said, "I’ve never seen a human being eat in such a disgusting fashion."
