Former Secretary of State John Kerry has some brief advice for President Donald Trump: step down.

Kerry was interviewed Tuesday at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. He ripped Trump and his decision to withdraw the United States from the Paris climate agreement in 2017, and then was asked what he would say to the president if he were sitting next to him.

"I can't play that," Kerry said. "I would … He doesn't take any of this seriously. He doesn't have an ability to have that kind of conversation."

When pressed further, Kerry had one word of advice he would deliver to Trump: "resign."

Regarding the Paris agreement, which was signed in 2015, Kerry said lives are at stake because of the threats to the world posed by climate change.

"Only the United States has pulled out," Kerry said. "Actually, only Donald Trump has pulled out. Because the truth is that in the United States, 38 states and their governors have renewable portfolio laws, which they are implementing. And they're working towards Paris.

"The passive indifference that most countries are accepting is basically a mutual suicide pact. That's what people are on right now. Because we're not doing what is necessary to save the planet. It sounds enormous, it sounds dramatic, draconian, it's real, folks. This is what scientists are telling us."
