Hillary Clinton is going to be endorsed by former Sen. John Warner, a Virginia Republican, in an announcement Wednesday morning, according to a CNN report.

Warner will pledge his support at a campaign event in Alexandria, Virginia, with Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Kaine, per the report.

Warner, a former Navy secretary, served 30 years in the senate and his anticipated endorsement stands to back Clinton’s ability to lead the U.S. as commander and chief.

The move comes as conservatives blasted Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump for what they perceived to be a lackluster showing in the first debate Monday night. The businessman had recently cut a double-digit deficit in Virginia to eight points, according to Sunday's latest CBS Battleground Tracker Poll.
