Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wisc., said Sunday that former deputy director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation Andrew McCabe “should have been indicted a year ago” for his part in the investigation of Russia election meddling.
In an interview on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures,” the chairman of the Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee said he’s confident there will be further indictments from U.S. Attorney General John Durham, who is investigating the Russia investigation.
“Andrew McCabe should have been indicted a year ago after the [Inspector General Michael Horowitz] report,” he said.
“He lied to his own FBI investigators,” he charged. “Remember George Papadopoulos spent 10 days in jail … for lying to the FBI. So I can only assume from that standpoint that there are much greater offenses that they are investigating Andrew McCabe. But from what we already know, there should be a host of indictments.”
Johnson said there’s been “hiding the ball” by the FBI, insisting “we need to get to the truth as quickly as possible.”
“[Former FBI Director] James Comey, [former Director of National Intelligence James] Clapper, [former CIA director John] Brennan.. are on the list” of expected interviews, Johnson said.
“What has delayed my interviews of those individuals is we don't have the documents. … we absolutely need those documents that is what the FBI has been so successful at hiding the ball on," he said.
