Republican lawmakers' push to challenge the Electoral College's vote for Joe Biden is about defending the Constitution, Rep. Jim Jordan said Wednesday, before Congress was to convene for its proceedings.

"We should do our duty because we know five states, five key states that were critical in this election changed election law in an unconstitutional fashion," the Ohio Republican told Fox News' "Fox and Friends."

Arizona will be the first state under discussion, Jordan said, noting that a judge appointed by former President Barack Obama "unilaterally went around the Constitution" and extended the voter registration by 18 days.

And Democrats have been "trying and trying" to "get rid" of President Donald Trump, said Jordan.

"They couldn't do it, so they said you know what we are going to do? Change the rules and they did it in an unconstitutional fashion and Democrats never wanted to talk about it," said Jordan. "We asked for investigations for nine weeks so today's the day the founders gave to Congress, the ultimate day of significance and we will have that debate on the House floor."

He also rejected a question about why Republicans didn't bring up the issues sooner, saying a report was put out in September.

"We let the world know, then we had hearings in the summer where they brought in the postmaster general," said Jordan. "They were planning this."

Meanwhile, the Trump campaign tried to stop the election fraud, but "Democrat judges, Democrat secretaries of state, Democrat governors, Democrat county clerks" worked to "unilaterally" change laws, said Jordan.

The congressional debate on Wednesday is the last remedy, said Jordan, and when asked if he worries about the future of his party, he replied "I worry about the future of the country."

Still, Jordan said he's "all for the debate" on the Electoral College.

"Our job is to present this information in a compelling way on the house floor for the American people to see and our colleagues," said Jordan.
