Joseph diGenova said he and his law partner wife are advisers to President Donald Trump, "playing the role of lawyers on television and in real life," the attorney told WBAL NewsRadio during an interview.
DiGenova last week pulled himself out of contention to officially join Trump's legal team because of a "conflict of appearances" for having represented other people involved in the Russia investigation, he told the Baltimore radio station, adding that it wasn't "technical conflicts."
But since the mutual parting, diGenova said he and his wife, Victoria Toensing, have spoken with the president and his legal team several times.
"Victoria and I are playing the role of lawyers on television and in real life," diGenova told WBAL, laughing. "We continue to chat with his lawyers and with him."
Trump had hired diGenova to replace John Dowd, who resigned last week.
DiGenova continued his assault on Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein for appoint special counsel Robert Mueller, accusing the Justice Department's No. 2 of covering "his fanny."
"I think it is a disgraceful and cowardly act that Rosenstein did because he didn't wanna make tough political decisions. I have no respect for [Rod Rosenstein]," diGenova told WBAL.
"He has taken away from a duly elected president of the United States over a year of [Trump's] presidency, by this foolish and cowardly, and unauthorized act of appointing a special counsel."
