Chris Lu, a one-time high-ranking official under former President Barack Obama, said White House adviser Kellyanne Conway broke the law when she promoted President Donald Trump's daughter's clothing line while making a television appearance.
He made his claims in a Twitter post.
Lu, a former deputy secretary of labor, specifically cites a passage in the Standards of Ethical Conduct for Employees of the Executive Branch, which reads: "Any employee shall not use his public office for his own private gain, for the endorsement of any product, service or enterprise, or for the private gain of friends, relatives . . ."
His tweet also tagged Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, chairman of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee.
Lu's comments come after Conway appeared on "Fox & Friends" on Thursday, per The Hill.
At the end of her appearance, Conway said: "Go buy Ivanka's stuff, is what I would tell you, I hate shopping but I'm going to go get some for myself today."
The website notes President Trump on Wednesday had lashed out at Nordstrom for dropping his daughter's clothing line.
