GOP Senate candidate Rep. Kevin Cramer, R-N.D., thinks the #MeToo movement spotlighting sexual abuse makes women weak.
In remarks to The New York Times, Cramer, running to unseat Sen. Heidi Heitkamp, D-N.D., said his wife, two daughters, mother and mother-in-law "cannot understand this movement toward victimization."
"They are pioneers of the prairie," he continued. "These are tough people whose grandparents were tough and great-grandparents were tough."
He also suggested the #MeToo movement had created a backlash as the left tried to torpedo Justice Brett Kavanaugh's nomination, adding: "The world got to see close up how ugly it can be when you go too far," the Times reported.
Heitkamp angrily replied: ". . . I want you to put this in there: It did not make my mom less strong that she was a victim" of sexual assault as a teenager.
"She got stronger and she made us strong," Heitkamp told the Times. "And to suggest that this movement doesn't make women strong and stronger is really unfortunate.”
