New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has been doing an "excellent job" while dealing with the coronavirus epidemic, Rep. Pete King told Newsmax TV Monday, but whle he does not agree with the Democrat's call for more federal intervention in dealing with the disease's impact, but he does think it's time to move forward and work together on a solution.
"I wish he hadn't made those remarks he said today because, for the most part, he's been very tempered, very reasoned," the New York Republican told Newsmax TV's "Greg Kelly Reports."All of us should work together. The president should stop talking about what (Barack) Obama did with swine flu, and Democrats should quit talking about the test kits. Let's go forward."
Meanwhile, King said he does think "momentum is going our way," but so much has happened in the last five days, and he believes the only way to truly stop the virus is to have social isolation and keep out of streets, restaurants, and mass transportation as much as possible.
King also said he agrees with Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., who said he would advise all government agencies and businesses, aside from those providing essential services, to shut down.
"I think it's certainly going in the right direction," said King, but warned that what might work in New York might not work elsewhere, as it is "hard to have the cookie-cutter federal approach to everything."
He also said he thinks that Cotton's claims about the Chinese deploying coronavirus as a potential biological weapon are "worth of investigation," but he doesn't think the disease was intentionally released.
"I can see them working on some kind of chemical or biological warfare and have it escape he said. "I don't think they would want it going around the world starting in China."
However, he added that he doesn't trust China's government as it has been "disgraceful from the start" by not letting doctors or scientists in to help with the situation.
