Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen is too "focused" to be "writing anonymous and false opinion pieces for The New York Times and "political attacks" are beneath her and her office's mission, Nielsen's press office statement read Thursday, CNN reported.
Following Vice President Mike Pence, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats, and Defense Secretary James Mattis, the office of Nielsen also issued a public statement saying she was not the author of the Wednesday editorial that trashed the presidency.
"Secretary Nielsen is focused on leading the men and women of DHS and protecting the homeland – not writing anonymous and false opinion pieces for The New York Times," DHS press secretary Tyler Q. Houlton's statement read, per the report.
"These types of political attacks are beneath the Secretary and the Department's mission."
