Charles and David Koch, the billionaire brothers who back conservative causes and candidates, say they are waiting to endorse a GOP candidate to the White House, despite comments at a New York event on Monday supporting Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker.

"We will support whoever the candidate is, but it should be Scott Walker," David Koch said at a fundraising event for the state GOP in Manhattan, The New York Times reported.

But in a statement sent to Newsmax on Tuesday, a spokesperson the brothers said they have yet to throw their support behind any candidate.

"While I think Governor Walker is terrific, let me be clear, I am not endorsing or supporting any candidate for President at this point in time," David Koch said.

At the Union League Club before dozens of New York state's top political donors just after Walker had addressed the group, David Koch stressed he and his brother will remain "neutral" for now, but he also gave props to Walker.

"My brother and I are going to take a neutral position as to who we are going to support until the primaries are over … in the summer of next year. So when the primaries are over and Scott Walker gets the nomination, well...then we will support," Koch said, his comments interrupted by laughter and applause.

Super-PACs, organizations, and fellow donors linked to the Koch brothers have pledged $900 million to aid Republican candidates in the 2016 elections.
