Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol on Saturday called on GOP vice presidential candidate Mike Pence to drop out of the race in an effort to get Donald Trump off the ticket.

Kristol, a long-time NeverTrumper, breaks from other conservatives who have called on Trump himself, as the presidential nominee, to drop out after audio was leaked Friday of Trump making lewd comments about women in 2005.

Pence issued a statement saying he was offended by Trump's remarks, adding, "I do not condone his remarks and cannot defend them. I am grateful that he has expressed remorse and apologized to the American people."

Trump says he will not withdraw, and Kristol tweeted that at least one Republican agrees with him that Pence should lead the way.
