Despite the hopes of many on the right, there won't be another tea party takeover in this year's midterm elections, political scientist Larry Sabato says.
"I don't think those tea party challengers are going to make it to November, Sabato said Tuesday on Fox News Channel's
"Your World With Neil Cavuto."
"There are six prime tea party challengers left for incumbent Republican senators. And right now, I would bet on at least five of the incumbents winning," Sabato said Tuesday.
Cavuto said he didn't want to argue with an expert, but added there might be room for surprises. "I think this undercurrent of angst within the Republican Party might be greater than we appreciate."
Turning to
Democrats who are distancing themselves from President Barack
Obama and his low approval ratings, Sabato said many are inviting former President Bill Clinton to campaign events instead.
That's fine with Clinton, Sabato said, noting that the former president finds such work much more enjoyable than others.
"He just plain old loves campaigning," Sabato said.
Besides that, he said, "He's obviously building up chits for Hillary" for an expected 2016 run at the White House of her own.
