As Louisiana state Rep. Lenar Whitney's race for a U.S. House seat heats up, the first-term Republican is counting on a freezing planet to help propel her campaign.
In a five-minute
campaign video, Whitney, 55, a Houma, La., businesswoman, pulled no punches in attacking man-made climate change, declaring, "Global warming is a hoax."
Whitney assailed former Vice President Al Gore’s Oscar-winning 2006 film, "An Inconvenient Truth," insisting, "The earth has done nothing but get colder each year since the film’s release."
Whitney also tore into the Obama administration’s initiatives on global warming, saying, "President Obama knows it’s getting colder. He was foolish enough to blame our recent pathetic economic growth on record freezing weather, and then he turned around and launched a new debate on global warming.
"In the Obama administration, down is up, two plus two equals five, and ignorance is strength."
Whitney has a tough row to hoe in her upcoming bid for a second term. She is challenged by Garret Graves, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal’s former adviser; state Sen. Dan Claitor, R-Baton Rouge; and former Gov. Edwin Edwards, fresh out of prison from a 2000 conviction for extortion, and so far, in the lead.
Whitney, the Republican national committeewoman from Louisiana, is backed by Ross Little, Jr., the national committeeman, and says she has amassed a campaign fund of $100,000 for the coming struggle.
"Quite inconveniently for Al Gore and the rest of the politicians who continue to advance this delusion, any 10-year-old can invalidate their thesis with one of the simplest scientific devices known to man: a thermometer," Whitney says in the video.
She mentions the record amount of sea ice in the Antarctic, heavy seasonal snowfall, and low winter temperatures as evidence of what she terms the "greatest deception in the history of mankind," global warming.
Whitney also cites the 2009 Climategate scandal, in which the website of the Climate Research Unit of the U.K.’s University of East Anglia was hacked, and appeared to global warming deniers to provide disturbing evidence of data shenanigans in scientific research into global warming.
"The conspiracy of global warming has had a devastating effect on the American Dream," Whitney says in the video. "Both capitalism and our energy industry are under attack, and the hoax of global warming is the dagger."
Should the United States disregard warnings of global warming, Whitney says, U.S. energy production could cripple Russian President Vladimir Putin’s dreams of a resurgence of Russian power in Europe, form a formidable challenge to Arab dominance, create jobs, and go a long way to reducing America’s international debt.
