President Donald Trump's administration does not have a "top political operative" to prepare for the 2018 midterm elections in the House and the Senate, according to former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski.

"What I don't see, and this is not pejorative to anybody in the building, I don't see the Karl Rove, the David Axelrod, that top political operative who is helping craft the political decisions going into what will be a very competitive 2018 cycle for members of the House and Senate," Lewandowski said on the "Powerhouse Politics" podcast, according to ABC News.

"I think you might be seeing some changes in that regard," Lewandowski added.

Lewandowski also praised chief of staff Gen. John Kelly, saying he has "brought order from chaos."

When asked if Trump has told lies, Lewandowski responded that he did not know.

"Look, I don't know. My kids lie. Here's what I tell everybody. If you tell the truth, you'll be better off," Lewandowski said, then brought up Trump's opponent in the 2016 election, Hillary Clinton, and her staff members.

"I think that's a very difficult question because if we want to talk about lying, we need to talk about the severity of the lies, and those lies include Hillary Clinton to the FBI and Cheryl Mills and Huma Abedin to the FBI," he added.

In July 2016, former FBI Director James Comey said in testimony that he had "no basis" for concluding that Clinton had lied to the FBI, ABC News reported.

The former campaign manager has co-written a book about the Trump campaign with David Bossie, called "Let Trump Be Trump." In the podcast interview, Lewandowski credited Trump's work ethic during the campaign.

"He never complained about how many times we asked him to do things or sign things or take pictures, he just did it. He asks the staff to be as good as him, he doesn't ask us to be better, he says be as good as me. Work as hard as I do," Lewandowski said.

On Thursday, Lewandowski said Trump was "the greatest brander our country has ever seen," during an interview on Newsmax TV's "The Joe Pags Show."
