As part of its probe into the origins of the FBI's Russia investigation during the 2016 presidential election, the Senate Judiciary Committee wants top Obama officials to testify and would consider compelling their testimony, a GOP source told Fox News on Tuesday.

Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham has said he wants to hear from former FBI Director James Comey and former FBI Deputy Director Andre McCabe during the summer.

This is in addition to possibly seeking the testimony of former Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates, former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and former CIA Director John Brennan.

The desire to have these officials appear before the committee comes as the spotlight is focusing on the awareness at the top levels of the Obama administration of the Russia probe, specifically concerning former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn.

As soon as his case is dismissed Graham has that he would invite Flynn to testify before the committee next month, saying that “we will be pursuing the Flynn investigation to try to explain how it got so off the rails, starting with offering General Flynn a chance to come to the committee and tell the country what it was like to go through this.”

Graham stressed he wants an "oversight hearing to find out why the Justice Department now believes that General Flynn was unfairly prosecuted [and] try to figure out why the system failed."

The senator insisted there must be political accountability for these misdeeds.
