Rep. Louie Gohmert on Healthcare: 'Force' in GOP Working Against Trump

Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, lamented the failure of the Republican healthcare plan Friday, telling Fox Business Network host Stuart Varney that "it's almost as if there was some kind of force in the Republican Party that did not want to see [Donald] Trump succeed."

Gohmert, a member of the House Freedom Caucus, could not explain the reason Republicans delayed the vote on the American Health Care Act until next week, saying the GOP "apparently" lacked the necessary votes, although he "really did think there was no reason we would not have the vote.

"It gives Trump a victory and we really wanted to see that happen. I really thought it would happen, I don't know," he added later.

"I hate to say this on television because it sounds like such a wild idea, but, Stuart, it's almost as if there was some kind of force in the Republican Party that did not want to see trump succeed. I know that sounds crazy, but it's almost like that…. It's crazy I know, but the feeling is there."

Gohmert declined to speculate on any divide within the GOP over Trump, but admitted that there are "some different agenda items that may be in conflict."

Earlier this week, Gohmert slammed the healthcare bill as doing less than "the bill we passed two years ago… to repeal Obamacare," on WIBC in Indianapolis, Indiana.
