President Donald Trump sounded "more like Jeb Bush" than himself during Tuesday's meeting with lawmakers at the White House on immigration, and many questions remain about what will happen on the Deferred Action on Childhood Arrivals program issue, Mark Krikorian, executive director for the Center for Immigration Studies, said Wednesday.
"He made a lot of comments that frankly sounded a lot more like Jeb Bush than Donald Trump," Krikorian told Fox News' "Fox & Friends" program. "I joked on Twitter that the 'J' in Donald J. Trump should be Jeb at this point."
However, he added, there have been other times where it sounded as if Trump was making a deal with Democrats, including after he met with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi in 2017.
"Even during the campaign, he had various events where it sounded like he was going rogue," said Krikorian. "It never turned out that way. I'm not — I'm worried but I'm not necessarily more worried than I was before."
He does think that Trump was "cultivating discussion" during the meeting, but he doesn't think he was "necessarily" selling out his supporters.
"He was just, I think, it was a reality show," said Krikorian. "It was the 'Real Politicians of Washington D.C.' The question is going to be, what is the actual legislation that is going to come out of it?"
He continued that he was encouraged that Trump talked about a proposed bill by Rep. Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., who chairs the House Judiciary Committee.
"It is to deal with, the amnesty the DACAs, give them a three-year work permit legally, not the phony thing [Barack] Obama has done, in exchange for getting rid of Visa lottery, getting rid of chain migration, mandate e-verify and border and other enforcement measures," said Krikorian.
"It is not everything I would like. That is a pretty good bill. That is the only bill the president talked about."
Dreamers, he continued, are "different than any other illegals."
"The Democrats in that room were basically saying, look, this is a camel's nose under the tent," said Krikorian of the meeting. "'We want to give them amnesty. Then we want to give it to everybody else.'"
