Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., won't run for president, The Wall Street Journal reports.

Warner, a former Virginia governor, had first toyed with the possibility of running in 2008 and even made stops in New Hampshire.

Now, Warner, 61, tells the newspaper, he will not be a candidate in 2020.

"I think that window is probably shut," Mr. Warner told the Journal.

The paper says Warner had eyed the White House for some time. While a student at George Washington University in the national's capital, Warner declined a White House tour, saying: "I'll see the White House when I'm president."

Now, as a centrist Democrat, he is looking for areas to cooperate with the GOP and the President-elect Donald Trump, the newspaper adds.
