A poll shows that Democrat Phil Bredesen, the former Tennessee governor, has a slight advantage over Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., in the race for the U.S. Senate seat, The Tennessean reported.
Among the poll’s results:
- 46 percent of Tennessee voters said they would support Bredesen if the election were today.
- 43 percent said they would support Blackburn.
- 11 percent said they were undecided.
In east Tennessee, Blackburn has more support, with 48 percent of the voters in that area saying they would support Blackburn if the election were today, and 39 percent saying they would vote for Bredesen, The Tennessean reported.
Bredesen and Blackburn are running for the Senate position vacated by Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., who announced in September that he would retire from the position at the end of his term.
Mason-Dixon Polling and Strategy conducted the poll between April 17 and April 19 with 625 registered voters in Tennessee. The poll contains a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points, the report said.
Retiring Sen. Bob Corker said Sunday he was supporting Blackburn as a nominee, but would not campaign against Bredesen, who he called a friend.
