Rep.. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., won the race against Democrat Phil Bredesen on Tuesday, keeping the seat in Republican control after the retirement of Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn.

Fox News called the race around 9 p.m. ET, giving Blackburn — who has represented Tennessee's 7th Congressional District since 2003 — a clear victory over the former Tennessee governor.

Blackburn trailed in the polls during the campaign before she started to turn things around in mid-August. From there, she continued her rise over the following month before briefly taking the lead by the middle of September. Blackburn's late surge in October provided her with a significant buffer in the polls.

Corker is retiring at the end of the year after occupying the seat for 12 years.
