Rep. Marsha Blackburn: Trump Cabinet Will Include Women

Although all five of President-elect Donald Trump's major nominations to fill positions in his administration are white males, he will have a diverse cabinet that will include women, Rep. Marsha Blackburn told CNN's "New Day" on Monday.

Blackburn, who is on Trump's transition team, said "there are always qualified women that are going to be putting themselves forward for positions ... but you look at the goals that you want to achieve in the next couple of years, then you look at the skill set that individuals bring to bear and you match them up. Mr. Trump is going to have women that are in those top levels of responsibility. He's going to have women that know how to work this process to get things done to achieve the goals and to deliver the product the American people want."

Vox pointed out that although it is still early in the decision-making process for choosing top government roles, there are reportedly not so many women on short lists either, and some of them are for the same position, so it is unlikely women will have a very large representation.

It appears the percentage will be less than 10 percent, which would be a significant decrease from the more diversified cabinets Americans have become used to seeing over the last decades, according to PRI.

President Barack Obama's cabinet is 35 percent female and Bill Clinton's was more than 40 percent, while all the Bush and Reagan cabinets had women filling at least 15 percent of the positions.

President Gerald Ford's cabinet some 40 years ago was the last one to have less than 10 percent female representation.
