Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., said Tuesday that she never planned on going to President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration, citing his controversial remarks.

"After I discovered who Trump is in the way he conducted himself, I was never going to go to the inauguration," she said on MSNBC, The Hill reports. "I never planned, I never contemplated even going near any of those activities or those events. I don't like the way he has misled people, the way he has lied. I don't like the way he's disparaged folks."

Waters specifically mentioned Trump's alleged mocking of a disabled journalist last year during a campaign rally.

"I don't honor him, I don't respect him and I don't want to be involved with him," Waters added.

Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga., announced on Saturday that he would skip Trump's inauguration in protest of alleged Russian interference in the presidential election, claiming it would be the first he's missed in 30 years as a congressman. Lewis also boycotted George W. Bush's inauguration in 2001, which Trump noted on Twitter:

Lewis' staff later told The Washington Post that he forgot about his earlier protest, saying "that was almost 20 years ago."
