House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy Wednesday accused Democrats of a plan to "drag their feet" on investigating China's actions at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic and slammed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for refusing to call the chamber into session.
"As we stay closed, Nancy gets more power, and China gets a pass," the California Republican said on Fox Business' "Mornings With Maria." "We laid out a very clear plan of how we can open up, modified our procedures, keep votes open longer, and having not as many members in the chamber at one time so you have social distancing."
However, Pelosi does want to bring lawmakers in next week to vote on yet another massive coronavirus package, calling for more than a trillion dollars to send aid to state and local government and shore up safety net programs.
"Remember all other challenges America had, from civil wars to battles, Congress stayed in session," he added. "Starbucks is going to be open, but Congress cannot work? The Senate is working but Congress is not working."
"She wants to vote on a bill that is trillions of dollars and has never been through a committee, so America does not have a voice in it," said McCarthy. "It is just a liberal wish list of what Nancy Pelosi wants. She is the only one who is drafted it to move that forward, spending trillions of dollars."
Meanwhile, the one thing that Democrats don't want to investigate China, but continue to "drag their feet," said McCarthy.
"What did China do during that time, lying to the rest of the world, hoarding personal protection equipment and they would not allow people from Wuhan to fly to Beijing or anyplace else in China but would still allow international flights to spread it across the world," he added.
