Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is calling for Democrats to work with Republicans to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act.

"We plan to take on this challenge in manageable pieces, not another 2,700-page bill like ObamaCare,” McConnell wrote at Fox News.

"Some Democratic Senators have mused publicly about their role in that process. I hope they'll work with us," McConnell said. "We want their ideas to improve our health care system. We want to find ways to work together on this important issue. That's the best way forward. That's the way I prefer.

"Democrats can join us in taking one very important step forward this month by confirming President-elect Trump's nominees to head health-care agencies like the Department of Health and Human Services."

Former Heath and Human Services Secretary, and Republican, Mike Leavitt told CNN that the GOP's plan for Obamacare would only have "long-term viability” with Democratic support.

"The GOP has indicated publicly that they intend not to make the same mistake that the Democrats did in passing a bill that was not supported in a bipartisan way," Leavitt added. "I think that's wise."

But many Democrats, including Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, have vowed to fight Republican efforts to repeal the president's signature healthcare law.

"We are taking to the floor and social media to denounce this plan and warn the American people that the Democrats will be fighting tooth and nail against this potentially catastrophic move,” Schumer said in a statement to The Huffington Post.
