National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster and President Donald Trump had a rough patch of butting heads due to their disparate communication styles, Axios reported.
McMaster, former military, was all about thorough, precise briefings to the president, who instead likes his updates short, visual and spontaneous, Axios reported.
But those briefings have improved lately — but still awkward — as McMaster has altered his rigid style by making shorter points in a less-formal style, Axios reported.
Adding to the pair's difficulties might have been Trump's decision to bring in Rex Tillerson to the president's meeting with Vladimir Putin at the G-20 over McMaster, a move that could be seen as weakening the NSA.
McMaster's deputy, Dina Powell, is very good at communicating with Trump, leaning on a more conversational style with many references to Trump and his past statements and beliefs about a topic, Axios reported.
