Nikki Haley telling Democrats to give former President Donald Trump a break and skip impeachment is “the most disgusting language I’ve ever heard,” said “The View” co-host Meghan McCain.
"It's hard for me to give President Trump a break when our vice president could have been killed because of the things he was saying," she said Wednesday during the show. "I would love to see more Republicans come out and do the right thing ethically, but politics is going to come in the middle of this.”
Haley, the former U.S. envoy to the United Nations, two weeks ago said she didn't see a basis for impeachment.
McCain also said video of the Capitol riot “literally took my breath away.”
"I started crying again," she said. "It's like revisiting trauma. I have been so intensely and deeply impacted by what happened on Jan. 6 for a variety of reasons, and I think all Americans are."
House Democrats on Wednesday unloaded a trove of video footage that showed lawmakers narrowly evading the mob that stormed the Capitol. The material was part of the House’s opening arguments in the impeachment trial that began Wednesday.
McCain, the daughter of the late Sen. John McCain, said like Rep. Jamie Raskin’s daughter, she, too, didn’t want to return to the Capitol after the riots, “and I was literally raised going to the Capitol my entire life.”
