Megyn Kelly on Monday previewed a clip from her interview with Donald Trump, set to air May 17 in a special on the Fox broadcast network.
"You seemed to stay angry for months. Was that real, or was that strategy?" Kelly asks Trump.
"Well I'm a real person," Trump replies. "I don't say, 'Oh, gee, I'm angry tonight,' but tomorrow you're my best friend. You see, I do have a theory that when somebody does it — and this could happen again with us, I mean, it could be even doing this particular interview."
Trump was referring to his ongoing feud with the Fox News Channel host after she confronted him in the first GOP debate in August over his treatment of women.
"I have great respect for you that you were able to call me and say, 'Let’s get together, and let’s talk'" Trump tells Kelly in the clip. "To me, I would not have done that."
Kelly showed the clip Monday on "Live with Kelly and Michael," and told hosts Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan that the clip was "the most interesting part of the Trump interview."
She said she reached out to Trump in what appeared to be a "lull" during his anger.
"He was clearly unhappy about that August 6th debate question," she continued.
Kelly said she thinks the GOP eventually will unite around Trump, "because I think for the Republicans, Hillary [Clinton] is the great unifier."
