Former Mexican President Vicente Fox on Wednesday apologized for using vulgar language toward now GOP presumptive presidential nominee Donald Trump and invited Trump to visit his country.

In an interview with Breitbart News, Fox said, "I apologize. Forgiveness is one of the greatest qualities that human beings have, is the quality of a compassionate leader. You have to be humble. You have to be compassionate. You have to love thy neighbor."

In February, Fox responded to Trump's call to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexican border.

"I'm not going to pay for that [expletive] wall," Fox said.

On Wednesday, Fox admitted, "Yes, I’m humble enough as leadership be, [a] compassionate leader. If I offended you, I'm sorry. But what about the other way around?"

Trump should not "follow the strategy of attacking others, offending others, to get to his purpose," Fox told Breitbart. "There are other ways and means of doing it. I invite him to come to Mexico and to see what Mexico is all about."

Fox said Trump should be more responsible and said he might be able to lend a hand.

"I can convince him to think intelligently" about trade and more, Fox said.

Fox is not the only Mexican leader making what seems to be a U-turn on Trump.

Speaking to The Hill Wednesday, Secretary of the Economy Ildefonso Guajardo appeared to be taking a more positive attitude toward the Manhattan real estate tycoon.

"It's not very convenient for foreign officials" to comment on U.S. elections, he told The Hill. Mexico, he said, will instead focus on the massive economic potential of the U.S.-Mexico partnership.

"The mere fact that Mexico has become an item in the debate should be an opportunity to reinforce the U.S-Mexico relationship. In a way, underlying that reality is the fact that whatever happens in Mexico has an impact in the U.S. That in itself is good," said Guajardo.
