Michael Avenatti, the attorney for porn star Stormy Daniels, predicted President Donald Trump will not serve out his term in office.
"I said it a few weeks ago," Avenatti noted. "I said it last week. I'm going to absolutely — no question — say it again this morning: This president will not serve out this term. I guarantee it."
His comments came on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" on Thursday. They follow Trump's new lawyer Rudy Giuliani's remarks on Wednesday that president repaid his personal attorney Michael Cohen for a $130,000 payment to Daniels.
Daniels claimed she had a sexual encounter with Trump in 2006 and was paid to keep quiet.
"Mr. President, you and your advisers and your lawyers need to bring it," Avenatti said.
"Bring it because you can continue to lie to the American people and we are not going tolerate it, not today, not tonight, and any other day."
Trump had previously told reporters several weeks ago that he didn't know about the payment to Daniels. Asked aboard Air Force One whether he was aware of the payment, Trump had answered: "No."
But Avenatti said: "And I think it's critically important we realize that the American people have been lied to. The American people should not have their president stand on board Air Force One and blatantly lie to them and then have his surrogates out there lying to the American people about $130,000 payment around a campaign and a subsequent coverup. It shouldn't happen.
"The importance of this cannot be overstated. This is not about sex. This isn't about what happened between Stormy Daniels and Donald Trump in the bedroom. It's not about what happened in 2006 or 2007. I've been saying this all along. This is about a coverup. It's about lies told to the American people."
And Avenatti said he remains optimistic he will have the opportunity to question Trump in Daniel's lawsuit against the president.
"I'm more confident this morning than I've ever been throughout this entire process and the reason is because of statements like this which completely undercut prior representations that have been made and call into question what the story here is" he said.
"I don't believe that was just Rudy Giuliani going off on his own on a whim and making these statements, and now he should be fired because he made a mistake. This was calculated."
He noted his client continues to receive threats
"Well, we've dealt with a lot of threats on the day in and day out basis," he said. "And we know we're succeeding and advancing this case because the threats escalate. Wherever the threats escalate, we know we're doing our job."
