Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee said Sunday he will support the eventual Republican presidential nominee — even if it is Donald Trump.
But he still holds out hope it will be him that all the other Republicans end up supporting.
"Not one person in all of America has even voted," Huckabee said on
"Fox News Sunday." "Everybody wants to base it on polls that have polled 200 or 300 people. Why don't we wait till the voters make the decision?"
Though Huckabee is
polling in eighth place in Iowa he says his own polling indicates that 75 percent on Iowans have yet to make up their minds.
The experts who are saying Trump won't be able to win swing states if he is the nominee should check their past records, Huckabee said.
"If they're so smart, how come none of them predicted that [Trump] would be on top of things right now? How come none of them predicted who would be leading, who would be trailing?" he said. "And if they're so wrong about that why on earth should anybody in America believe them about who's going to be the nominee and who isn't?"
Huckabee defended an ad by a super PAC supporting him against Texas Sen. Ted Cruz which has been accused by
The Washington Post of selective editing.
The ad includes audio of Cruz telling a person at a New York fundraiser he won't make battling same-sex marriage a top-three priority.
When challenged that Cruz said immediately after that quote that his job will be to defend the entire Constitution, Huckabee denied selective editing of Cruz's quote.
In Iowa, Cruz has made a pitch to evangelicals he's the only authentic person in the race, Huckabee said.
"There's nothing selective, there's nothing deceptive," he said.
