Indiana Gov. Mike Pence will visit New Hampshire next month ahead of a potential run for president in 2016.
WMUR reports that Pence, a Republican, will campaign with Walt Havenstein, a Republican candidate for governor of New Hampshire.
Pence represented Indiana in the House for 12 years before becoming the state's governor in 2013. His Oct. 24 trip to the Granite State will be his first since 2010, reports WMUR.
The station said the campaign event will take place in Manchester.
A
report last week said several members of the GOP are beginning to put Pence's name into the mix of potential presidential candidates, alongside other high-profile governors Chris Christie (New Jersey), Scott Walker (Wisconsin), Bobby Jindal (Louisiana), and Rick Perry (Texas). Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush is another possible contender.
Pence would not say whether he would throw his hat into the ring and launch a run for the Oval Office.
"I can tell you that, for a small-town guy from southern Indiana who grew up with a cornfield in his backyard, it's a very humbling thing to be mentioned for the highest office in the land," he said last week. "But my focus is on Indiana."
Pence has appeared at several recent events, which has stoked
speculation that he is testing the presidential waters.
He visited Iowa earlier this month to attend a meeting of the Midwest-U.S. Japan Association Conference and speak at a fundraiser for Gov. Terry Branstad.
Pence was mentioned as a potential White House candidate in 2008 and 2012, but declined to seek the office.
