Donald Trump doesn't expect his running mate, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, to sling any mud during the presidential campaign.
In a clip from their first joint interview on
CBS News' "60 Minutes" to be aired Sunday night, Pence was reminded of his bitter congressional race in 1990 — and his later vow to abandon negative campaigning in an essay he titled
"Confessional of a Negative Campaigner" — and asked if Trump was running just such a campaign.
"I think this is a good man who's been talking about the issues the American people care about," Pence deflected.
"I said campaigns ought to be about something more important that just one candidate's election. And this campaign and Donald Trump's candidacy has been about the issues the American people care about."
Trump then quickly suggested he won't expect his running mate to go on the attack.
"I call her 'Crooked Hillary' ... but I don't think he should do it, because it's different for him," Trump tells host Lesley Stahl.
