Restrictions placed on Kyiv by the Biden administration in its war with Russia are counterproductive, House Intelligence Committee Chair Rep. Mike Turner told CBS News' "Face the Nation" on Sunday, stating that Ukraine having long-range weapon systems could change the dynamics on the ground.
The Ohio Republican said, "The restrictions that are being placed on Ukraine by the Biden administration in this conflict ... certainly are troublesome and do result in ... a game of attrition on Ukraine."
Turner said he "absolutely" advocates lifting further restrictions on Ukraine, stressing that Kyiv is "finally in a position where [it] can hold Russia accountable ... they have now entered into Russian territory. If they can use long-range weapon systems to hold accountable Russia's valid military targets that are attacking Ukraine, we can change the dynamics on the ground."
The House Intelligence Committee chair added, "You can't continue to just have a front line in Ukraine, where Russia is outproducing weapon systems that Ukraine ... has and have this turn out well for Ukraine."
Turner went on to say, "In this instance, if the Biden administration's restrictions are lifted, we also know, even if there is a Harris administration that follows, that Ukraine's support would be there, the ability to — to hold Russia accountable would be there."
