Two former aides to Mitt Romney are reportedly getting ready to join Jeb Bush's presidential campaign if he decides to run.
Romney, a Republican who served as Massachusetts governor from 2003-2007, came up short in his bid to become president in the 2008 and 2012 elections. Rumors say Bush, also a Republican, is preparing to run for the office in the 2016 election. Romney
initially said he would not run, but
recent reports suggest he could be changing his mind.
The deputy general counsel for Romney's 2012 campaign, however, is gearing up for a Bush announcement — and could join his team,
CNN reports.
The news outlet reports Megan Sowards, Romney's former deputy general counsel, is moving to South Florida and will start a new job at the McDonald Hopkins law firm — which has ties to Bush. Raquel Rodriguez, Bush's general counsel when he was Florida's governor, is the managing member of that law firm's Miami office, according to CNN.
Another former member of Romney's team, Matt Gorman, last week started working for Bush's political action committee "Right to Rise."
CNN reports that Sowards could be Bush's general counsel if he pulls the trigger on a White House run.
"She is a top-notch lawyer at the top of her game and a rising star in GOP legal circles," an unnamed Republican strategist told CNN of Sowards.
Some believe the upcoming presidential election
will be a two-person race between Bush on the right and Hillary Clinton on the left.
"I would bet it's going to be Bush. It'll be a Clinton-Bush race again," former U.S. Associate Attorney General Webster "Webb" Hubbell told Newsmax TV Monday.
