Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, is countering President Donald Trump’s claims against voting by mail.

"In my state, I'll bet 90% of us vote by mail,” he is quoted by ABC News. “It works very, very well and it's a very Republican state.”

The Hill said Trump claims voting by mail disadvantages Republicans while he has stepped up his attacks on mail-in voting.

The president threatened Wednesday to hold up coronavirus relief money for Michigan after he said the state had sent absentee ballots to millions of voters.

Michigan mailed applications for the absentee ballots, not the ballots themselves.

Trump has been very vocal about his opposition to voting by mail. He has claimed the practice is ripe for fraud. And he has maintained people should have to show up at polling stations and present identification to vote.

But the coronavirus pandemic has sparked fears from voters about waiting in line at polling stations and voting on machines that have been touched by others.
