Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, said Wednesday that he was keeping a "completely open mind" on any possible impeachment of President Donald Trump.
"I'm going to keep an open mind and I'm going to wait to make comments on any evidence," Romney, 72, the former Massachusetts governor and 2012 presidential candidate, told CNBC. "I want to see the facts.
"In my view," he continued, "it's time for me to stay silent on impeachment until the process is complete."
Romney is among three Republican senators who have not co-sponsored a resolution by Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., condemning the Democratic House impeachment inquiry and calling for due process and other protections for President Trump.
The other senators are Susan Collins, Maine, and Lisa Murkowski, Alaska.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who endorsed Graham's resolution, said Tuesday that he had not yet decided whether to bring it to the floor for a vote.
The House will vote Thursday on formalizing its impeachment investigation surrounding Trump's July telephone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and whether Trump suggested an investigation of former Vice President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter.
President Trump has derided the House inquiry as a "witch hunt" and a "scam."
Romney was interviewed on CNBC's "Squawk Box" with Sen. Joe Manchin, also 72, D-W.Va., who said that the Constitution was "very clear" about the roles of the House and Senate regarding presidential impeachment.
"It's not our job to tell the House to do their job," Manchin said.
"Let them do what they're going to do," he added. "Let us see the evidence.
"We're going to be the jurors."
