Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney isn’t just the front-runner for votes in the campaign for the Republican presidential
nomination. He’s also in front in the fundraising race, and the margin is huge,
Politico reports.
Romney is seeing so much money coming into his campaign coffers that he’s not going take any money out of his own bank account to finance his presidential effort, campaign officials tell the news service. Second-quarter numbers will tell the tale of the tape – or the cash anyway.
Romney garnered more than $10 million in a single call day last month and had 30 fundraisers scheduled for this month.
Among other candidates, Tim Pawlenty is unlikely to have attracted much money, thanks to his low poll readings. Michele Bachman is doing well with small contributions from individuals, but her ability to bring in the big money is uncertain.
