Support for impeaching President Trump has risen 9 points, but his approval rating ticked a point higher in the latest Monmouth University poll results released Tuesday.
Forty-four percent of the 1,161 Americans surveyed said they believed Trump should be impeached, up from 35% in the August poll.
However, 52% said they do not believe the president should be impeached, down from 59% in August.
But President Trump's approval rating rose to 41% in the latest poll, versus 40% in the previous poll. The president's disapproval reached 53% in both Monmouth surveys.
"Fundamental opinion about Donald Trump has been baked in from the very start of his presidency," said Patrick Murray, director of the Monmouth University Polling Institute. "Almost nothing he's done has come as a surprise to the American public, which is why we see such little change in his job rating.
"The question is whether those who want Trump out of office are willing to wait until 2020," Murray added, "and that's where we see a small shift."
The Monmouth University poll was conducted between Sept. 23 and Sept. 29 and has a margin of error of 2.9 percentage points.
