Talk show host Montel Williams formally announced his endorsement of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton over Republican Donald Trump in an editorial for USA Today on Wednesday.
"She was not my first choice, but she is the right choice on a host of issues," Williams, a former Republican who switched to Independent "about 20 years ago," said. "Given the threat to America posed by Trump, Clinton is the only choice."
Williams, who has been tweeting regularly against Trump , had backed Ohio Gov. John Kasich during the primary season.
"Over the past three weeks, it's become clear to me that I have an obligation to speak out — because I believe that Donald Trump represents a clear and present danger to our country," Williams wrote.
"Trump is worse than a clown or a bigot. He's an existential threat to our republic who cannot be trusted to be commander in chief."
Williams' endorsement comes one day after Trump's "law and order" speech in Wisconsin, where he also lobbied for the African American vote.
Earlier Wednesday, Williams had tweeted he was undecided. Just hours later, he chose Clinton.
