MSNBC host and former GOP Florida lawmaker Joe Scarborough is pleading with Republicans to "stand the hell up" to President Donald Trump after his decision to fire FBI Director James Comey.
In a series of tweets Tuesday afternoon after the bombshell announcement, Scarborough, co-host of "Morning Joe," tried to persuade Capitol Hill Republicans to push back hard.
"This is your moment to be counted," he tweeted.
In others, he warned against "trying to whitewash this gross abuse of power" and declared Republicans should not feel they are beholden to the president.
In others, Scarborough predicted a "massive" blowback, and urged the naming of an "independent prosecutor."
Scarborough has been highly critical of Trump since he took office in January, calling him a "fake president" in recent weeks, The Hill noted.
Trump has not appeared on "Morning Joe" since May 2016.
