The President Donald Trump-friendly National Enquirer devoted a front-page headline to undermine Trump’s personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, promising to expose “payoffs & threats” and “secrets” and “lies.”
The publication’s parent company, American Media Inc., run by a friend of the president, David Pecker, recently agreed to let former Playboy model Karen McDougal out of a contract that kept her from talking freely about an alleged affair with Trump — ending her lawsuit involving efforts to buy her silence, The New York Times reported.
The tabloid’s latest eye-catching front page appears to help the attempt by Trump — who told “Fox & Friends” that Cohen did only ”a tiny, tiny little fraction” of his legal work — to get a little more distance from the embattled Cohen.
Cohen’s office and home were raided by FBI agents in New York City as he faces a criminal investigation; his own lawyer told a federal judge April 20 that Cohen could be indicted on federal charges within 90 days.
Cohen once said his loyalty was so deep for Trump that he’d take a bullet for him.
