New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said Wednesday he hasn't decided who he'll publicly endorse in the state's contentious Democratic race for governor, but he does think actress and activist Cynthia Nixon "more than held her own" while debating with Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday night.
"There's no question in my mind that Cynthia Nixon is an extraordinary human being, an activist who’s made a huge impact, particularly in terms of education and fairness for our children<' de Blasio told MSNBC's "Morning Joe." "I thought she more than held her own last night in the debate, I thought she got a lot of very powerful ideas out and a lot of very powerful critics out. And I found some of the governor’s counterpoints a little desperate, honestly."
During the debate, Cuomo and Nixon argued over who opposed President Donald Trump more, while needling each other in exchanges that went on for about an hour.
Nixon attempted to cast Cuomo as a person who acts in the interests of his corporate donors, while Cuomo portrayed Nixon, one of the stars of HBO's "Sex and the City" as being naive about New York politics.
