Polls show that many Americans don't believe the upcoming tax reform law will benefit them because the mainstream news media lied for six months about it as part of its hostile coverage of President Donald Trump's first year in office, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Wednesday.

"You have had six months of The New York Times, The Washington Post, CBS and NBC and ABC, all lying about it," the ex-GOP lawmaker told Fox News "America's Newsroom" anchor Bill Hemmer. "If the only thing you heard was left wing diatribes, you aren't going to believe it, either. Let's see it next spring when people have money in their pocket. See how that gets explained on MSNBC."

When the nation's small businesses are all creating new jobs, Gingrich added, "I want to see The New York Times say it's a bad thing ... let's see how the media explains how false it's been."

The results of the new bill will be shown soon, when Americans are filing their taxes and see the child tax credit and standard deductions have doubled, and taxes have lowered for small businesses, said Gingrich.

He also predicted that investment in American jobs will boom when corporate tax rates are lowered.

"We just took you from the highest corporate tax rate in the world tied with Japan, we brought you down to being competitive with anybody in the world," said Gingrich. "That will lead to new investment in the U.S. AT&T announced another investment two days ago. Small business boom, better jobs, higher pay, lowers taxes and you'll see corporations saying I want to build in America again, not overseas."

As a result, "this is going to launch an American economic growth pattern that will be enormous," said Gingrich, pointing out that there has been an estimate that GDP growth could reach 4 percent next year.

Gingrich also on Wednesday urged people to read Trump's new national security strategy carefully.

"I have urged every sophisticated citizen to read the new national security strategy," he said. "It is a huge, profound break with the last 20 years and I think it is an important break. One of the keys is, it says if we are going to be the leading country in the world, we have to be the leading economy. We have to have the leading technology, and we have to do the things that provide the base for our military."
