Former House speaker Newt Gingrich on Saturday said President Donald Trump should expect "to be in the fight of his life" for the next eight years.

"I think we are in a cultural civil war. I think the establishment was so offended that Trump could first, win the Republican Party in a hostile takeover and then, second, win the presidency in a hostile takeover that the establishment will do virtually anything to destroy him," Gingrich said while discussing his book, "Understand Trump," on "The Larry Kudlow" radio show.

Gingrich also criticized the Republicans opposing the healthcare bill engineered by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, saying they should follow through on the promise to repeal and replace Obamacare they campaigned on.

"I think that McConnell has been working very hard. He has said to the president, I don't quite know how this is going to end up but we're going to get this done in some form. And I believe him. I think they're going to keep pushing and pushing and pushing," Gingrich said.

Gingrich also praised Trump for the work he's done in his first six months, specifically on the judiciary and regulatory front.

"He's already reshaping the federal judiciary," said Gingrich. "On the regulatory front, they have deregulated 16 regulations for every new regulation. That is an astonishing number."
